Supercom issued sanction for cartoonist Bonil
After the first public hearing installed on the Superintendency of Communication (Supercom), the entity issued its verdict in the case of cartoonist Xavier Bonilla (Bonil) and Daily El Universo.
The hearing conducted by the legal director of the Supercom, Ximena Segura said through its report that the publication of Bonil violated articles 10, paragraphs 4, 17, 22, 25 and 71 of the Communications Act.
The standards mentioned force those who work in the communication field to refrain from intentionally misrepresenting and omitting elements of information and opinion, respect copyrights and take responsibility for the information and opinion.
The sanction against Bonil and the daily range from a public apology and a fine equivalent to the 2% of the revenues of the last three months.
While Pedro Valverde, responsible for the defense of the newspaper, requested that El Universo was excluded from this process, considering that the cartoons are part of the editorial page, which are the responsibility of the authors.
