Facebook in U.S. will have new gender identity

For the first time Facebook will enable an option to allow users of the social network to identify with a different gender to male and female.

Last Wednesday, the social network announced that the basic user profile for members in the U.S. now includes a customizable category between gender types to choose from.

Among the options to elect are “transgender”, “intersex” and “fluid”, among others 10 types of gender identifications.

Facebook said that worked with a large group of organizations that advocate for the rights of gay and transgender people to provide ID options.
