Reforms on Labour Code condition social services

On last May 1, the Minister for Labour Relations, Carlos Marx Carrasco, publicly presented the project of the Organic Code of Labour Relations, which does not define yet certain points on food services and health and social care for employees.

Subsection 6 of section “Obligations and prohibitions regarding employment relationship,” the document states that employers must “maintain appropriate places for dining for workers if they are 25 or more in number in the factory or company.”

Likewise subsection 23 of the same section states that “when an employer have a hundred or more workers, they will have to count with medical and social work services, to meet the social-economic and health aspects and family, respectively, of the workers.”

Several workers unions demonstrated their rejection of subsections because they consider them as a threat to the current stability of these services. However, the minister Carlos Marx Carrasco said last week in a radio interview that employers are committed to maintain certain services, such as the dining room.
