Gas station next to the old MAGAP building was closed

The former building of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP for its Spanish acronym) located at the beginning of the Machala street, one of the most used in Guayaquil, has been demolished by a 90%, so the parallel works already begun to the area, where a new park will be built.

For this reason, the government decided to expropriate the land on which a Petroecuador gas station operated next to the building. This Friday morning workers began removing the gas station equipment of the place that was in operation for six years.

In an interview with El Universo newspaper, the Petroecuador station manager Edison Sosa, said that “we received the notice of expropriation in October. We were told the land was declared a public good and that we were invited to a meeting, there was no option to refuse.” For the expropriation, he adds, they received the assessed value of the land, not the commercial one.

Because of its strategic location, the station had a high influx of customers 24 hours; they sold 32,000 daily gallons of fuel, ie, $ 1,600,000 monthly.
