Indigenous march heads to Cuenca

The March for Water and Life, led by indigenous organizations, which started this Sunday continues its walks. Attendees crossed Loja, Saraguro and Nabón.

They say that the vote by the plenary of National Assembly for the draft Water law does not alter the programmed route to the capital, which will culminate on July 5, and expects its arrival to Cuenca today.

“We demand that the government set aside a series of laws intended to ensure the accumulation of wealth in a few hands, as the Labour Relations Code (…); we believe it is necessary a Water Law that desprivatices this resource and deliver it to the vast majority who do not have access today “. Furthermore, to stop what they consider “repressive policies” for social groups, based on “a report of a commission appointed hand-picked to investigate the events of September 30”, said Nelson Erazo, President of the Popular Front.
