Landslides leave 39 dead in Hiroshima
Posted On 21 Aug 2014
Around 39 deaths and seven missing people left the landslides caused by rains in the city of Hiroshima, in western Japan.
“There are some unusual rains and a major disaster. Furthermore, there is a risk of more rainfall. I have given the order to strengthen disaster relief operations”, said Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
630 soldiers were dispatched to the affected place.
Damage was spread over about 20 km in several neighborhoods of Hiroshima, where many houses are made of wood, so they did not withstand the onslaught of soaked earth that slid at high speed.
