4×4 tax service payment can be done by credit card or deposit

The payment method for the new tax on imports under the 4×4 service are two: by credit card or through a deposit into the account of the courier companies.

Sebastian Medina, coordinator of the Ecuadorian Association of Businesses and Messaging Express and Courier (Asemec for its Spanish acronym), explained that the payment by credit card, although it is faster, involves extra expenditure like paying 5% by Departure Tax of Currency (ISD) if collected outside the country and the card commission, even if it is done inside or outside the country.

Furthermore, he noted that the customer can make a deposit to the account so that the courier company can issue a declaration and a settlement.

According to Medina, in the coming days a saturation could be produced in the Customs Office due to the payment via deposit. However, the National Customs Service (Senae) noted that since the tax collection process initiated, “operations by courier or expedited courier are normally performed”.
