Government will apply safeguards for 2800 import products

Minister of Foreign Trade Diego Aulestia reported on Frida March 6 that the government will apply safeguards to 2800 products. This measure will take effect on March 11 and it will have a lasting of 15 months.
A surtax of 5% will apply to capital goods and non-essential raw materials; 15% for medium-speed goods; 25% to tires, ceramics, ckd of televisions and ckd of motorcycles and a surtax of 45% for consumer goods, including televisions and motorcycles.
The measure shall not apply to clothing, auto parts, medicines, cosmetics, toiletries, fuels and lubricants.
The new safeguard, says the government is accepted by the World Trade Organization (WTO), an organization that allows to apply it, to safeguard the external balance.
