Daily La Hora resists the sanction of SUPERCOM

Daily La Hora was declared in resilience and will refrain from paying the fine imposed by the SUPERCOM for not covering or disseminating the accountability of the mayor of Loja, on February 23.

“We declare ourselves in resistance, which is a constitutional principle, seeing that all of our rights, especially our rights to legal security have been violated,” told to AFP Luis Vivanco, editor general of La Hora.

The entity determined that the media breached Article 18 of the Communications Act, which states: “The mass media has the duty to cover and disseminate the facts of public interest. Recurrent and deliberate omission of the dissemination of public issues is an act of censorship.”

The newspaper must pay a fine of $ 3.540 in 72 hours. Consequently, Vivanco questioned the decision and announced that the newspaper will not pay the fine under the protection of the right of resistance.

“We were sanctioned, even though the complaining party did not even presented a single proof. The State provides, in this case, what must be published and what does not have to published, creating an absurd precedent in the practice of the profession,” said Vivanco.
