The BCE injected $ 294 million to the Treasury in the last week of March
The Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE for its Spanish acronym) injected a $ 294 million liquidity to the Central Government in the last week of March.
In the balance sheets published by this entity there is an account called Debt securities, which grew from USD 2 172.2 million to 2 466.1 million between 24 and 31 March, an increase of USD 294 million in six days, at a time when low oil prices hit the national treasury.
In late December, the manager of the Central Bank of Ecuador, Diego Martinez said following a question from this newspaper, that what has been done “to ensure liquidity and reserves of the BCE are not affected, are certain short-term operations that are permitted by law to enable the ECB to temporarily acquire securities.”
