The damages in the Santay, something that could have been avoided

Foreign newspaper articles that recommend the use of wood plastic compounds (WPC) mention the construction of furniture, floors, and walls of houses. This material is described as a material of “less impact resistance.”

Two specialists in the manufacture of plastic replicas of wood analyze the real problem of the bike path in the Santay Island.

One of them, Fernando Moreno, of Madera Plastica Ecuatoriana, considers it should not have been used as floor decking and handrails.

He says that this material is degraded by three factors: the climate (is placed on the mangrove area); the transverse installation of the planks; and, the constant passage of pedestrians and bicycles.

For his part, William Camacho, from Madera Verde Ecuador, describes the material imported from China as “of poor quality for the traffic it must endure. It is a crystalline plastic that breaks easily. Placing it on an aluminum structure is what has made it more vulnerable.”
