USA congratulates Ecuador for the consultation and calls to work with Moreno

The United States Government today congratulated the people of Ecuador for their participation in the consultation on Sunday and was willing to continue working with its president, Lenin Moreno, to “promote common interests.”

“We hope to continue working with President Lenin Moreno and his Government to promote common interests in a wide range of issues such as education, trade, security, the environment and disaster preparedness,” the State Department said in a statement.

“Our common interests,” he added, “will continue to promote the relationship between Ecuador and the United States in a constructive direction “. In the statement, the United States also congratulated the Ecuadorian people for “participating successfully in a peaceful and just national referendum.” 

“We congratulate Ecuador for its inclusion of independent observers from international organizations and the diplomatic community to help safeguard transparency,” he added. The Ecuadorian people supported the seven questions that Moreno raised on Sunday in his office.

Since then, however, the electoral observation mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) has suggested to the Constitutional Court that it issue a ruling on the legality of the questions asked. And the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights has requested provisional measures from the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in favor of the members of the Council of Citizen Participation of Ecuador, affected by the result of the referendum on Sunday. Moreno today described the IACHR’s request for “insolent meddling” and summoned the State’s powers to defend the results of the consultation. (I)
