Delegates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador and lawyers of Assange will meet in London

Posted On 29 Mar 2018

Ecuadornews:

Ecuadorian Foreign Minister, Maria Fernanda Espinosa, reported today that delegates from her ministry and lawyers of the Australian Julian Assange will meet next week in London, after the Government of his country announced that he restricted communications to the journalist, asylum in his embassy in the United Kingdom.

“We are assessing with our lawyers, there will be a meeting during the next week, in London, we will send a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the team of lawyers of Mr. Assange, and we will explore what are the alternatives that the framework of international law allows us and our own legislation, “said Espinosa.

The statement arose from questions from journalists about possible future actions to resolve the situation in the case once the government, chaired by Lenin Moreno, decided to cut Assange’s access to communications.

The Ecuadorian government reported today that it restricted access to communications, as well as visits, to Assange for “not being able to control himself” and comment on issues that Quito considers damaging its foreign policy, including that of Catalonia.

Assange -considered with the Ecuadorian Government- has violated a December 2017 agreement by which he had pledged not to comment on issues from other countries and will face this disconnection “indefinitely,” confirmed official sources Efe.

“He did not fulfill an agreement that he himself signed of silence and non-intervention in internal matters of other states, violated the commitment, so we have proceeded to cut off access to communications,” said Espinosa after participating in the public act on investments “Invest Ecuador 2018”.

And it is that Assange returned to demonstrate the last week on two political questions, one of Catalonia and the other the expulsion of Russian diplomats in response to the poisoning of the Russian double spy Sergei Skripal.

Australian activists remain under asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in London since 2012, considering the then government of Rafael Correa that his life and physical integrity were in danger. EFE (I)
