Ecuador and Panama seek agreement and exclude themselves from lists

Posted On 02 Apr 2018

Ecuadornews:

Representatives of Panama and Ecuador expressed that they are willing to work together so that each country excludes each other from lists that limit the strengthening of the bilateral relationship, and evaluate the negotiation of an information exchange agreement.

This is reported in a statement from the Embassy of Panama in Ecuador.

Earlier this month, that country included Ecuador in a list of jurisdictions that apply discriminatory or restrictive measures against it.

Ecuador, for its part, keeps Panama on a list of tax havens published in February 2008 and ratified on August 9, 2017, recalls the Panamanian Embassy.

In view of this, his vice-president and chancellor, Isabel de Saint Malo de Alvarado, received this week the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Cooperation of Ecuador, Rolando Suárez. In a meeting they “expressed the willingness to work hand in hand, in order to exclude each other from those lists …”, the statement said.

In the list of Panama are, more than Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela, Croatia, Slovenia, Estonia, France, Greece, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Cameroon, Georgia, Russia and Serbia. (I)
