After 11 years of negotiations with its counterpart in the United States, the Phytosanitary and Phytosanitary Regulation and Control Agency, it was able to define the phytosanitary requirements for the access of a fresh fruit, known as “Uvilla”.

Agrocalidad and APHIS must finalize and implement the operational conditions that Ecuador must meet for the shipment of grapes destined for the continental United States, such as fruit fly monitoring at production sites.

On September 19, 2019, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. UU. (APHIS) informed its decision to authorize the import of the Ecuadorian grape to the United States.

Agrocalidad reported that Ecuadorian products are enabled to more than 41 destinations on three continents.

The shipment of this type of Ecuadorian fruit is part of the national strategy to increase exports of non-traditional agricultural products.

So far in 2019, more than 13 tons of fresh Uvilla were certified for export to different destinations in the world.

On April 20, 2018, APHIS published a proposed rule to allow the importation of Ecuadorian fruit, along with a pest risk analysis and a risk management document.
