A power of 59 mw will be integrated into the country with 3 new hydroelectric

The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy promotes the National Energy Renewal program, which deals with points such as electricity tariffs, induction cookers, energy efficiency projects, among others.
The Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Elsy Parodi Ocaña, gave a keynote speech at the Espol and spoke about the National Energy Renewal Program (REN), whose content comprises ten points and aims to improve energy services for all Ecuadorians.
The first of the plan is the reduction of energy tariffs aimed at the industrial sector and involves a contribution of almost $ 85 million. The tariff for public lighting on average has decreased by 50% in the values to be paid, which is equivalent to 17 million dollars provided by the Ecuadorian State.
Another very important point is the National Plan for Energy Efficiency, which was promoted in 2016 with a horizon towards 2025, and which seeks to promote the rational use of energy. Parodi said that efficiency is not to lose the quality of life or conditions, but to consume it in a rational and appropriate way and thus contribute to sustainability.
She also pointed out that the industries that implement energy efficiency measures in their facilities will have a new rate incentive in addition to the tariffs. With this plan is expected to save 543 million barrels of oil, which means 84,131 million dollars saved in the period of 2016-2035 and in turn a saving of 35 million tons of CO2.
Another point is the efficient cooking program (PEC) or induction cookers, which was promoted by the previous government to replace liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) with electricity.
The Minister indicated that this program will be given a new twist, since from the technical point of view the system was not prepared for the entrance of the kitchens, so that the electrical system will be prepared and then enter massively. By 2024 it is expected to increase the induction cookers to 3 million, reduce the use of LPG by 2,000 million kilograms, reduce the subsidy of more than $ 1,200 million and eliminate 6.6 million of CO2.
The REN also promotes scientific research, with its laboratories and institutes on issues of energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy (ER), which goes hand in hand with academia and the public and private sectors.
Another important point is the initiative zero fossil fuels in Galapagos reflects that the archipelago is a pioneer in efficient energy consumption. “There is an island that consumes 100% of energy cooking induction and new projects are planned,” said Parodi.
The Government is focused on marginal urban electrification; the generation is now and now it will focus on the demand. 97.3% of the population already has public electricity service, the minister said “We cannot conceive that there are still people who do not have this service in their homes.”
In the agro-industrial and shrimp sector, work is also being done to electrify their facilities, thus avoiding the use of fossil fuels and petroleum derivatives in all processes. This would avoid the consumption of 40 million gallons of diesel, the emission of 400,000 tons of CO2 per year and obtaining savings of $ 28 million per year.
The REN foresees the strengthening of the electricity sector in terms of generation and distribution of energy, the existing infrastructure is already obsolete, and it is not enough for all the demand that is approaching.
Within the Ministry there is an undersecretary who is responsible for the control and nuclear applications that are made in the agricultural and health sectors. In addition, since the beginning of this management work is being done on three new hydroelectric power projects. (I)
