A shipment of 27 jute bags, inside which 505 packages with 981 200 grams of marijuana were found, was seized in a drug operation yesterday in the San Mateo parish.
Police reported that the cargo was being transported on a truck from the Borbon village in the north of Esmeraldas, and was allegedly bound for Guayaquil.
Two people who were inside the vehicle were arrested by the agents, who organized the operation after intelligence personnel alerted about the cargo as a result of several weeks of investigation in the so-called case “Transportador VII.”
Marijuana was camouflaged amongst coconut plants to evade controls. Police determined that with this cargo more than one million doses of marijuana were avoided to be put into circulation in the national illicit market.
