Alexandra Escobar: ‘I’m happy with my fourth place’

Ecuadorian Olympic Weightlifter Maria Alexandra Escobar Guerrero expressed her happiness on Monday after being fourth in the 57 kilos test, she also celebrated the fact that she can still fight with younger competitors and refused to talk about a possible retirement.
Escobar led the battalion of six Latin American women who finished in the top 10 of the test.
Ecuador finished the test with 223 kilos, eight less than Hsin-Chun Kuo, from Taiwan, who won the bronze medal. Thai Sukanya Srisurat won gold with 240 kilos, escorted by her compatriot Pimsiri Sirikaew.
“I’m happy with my fourth place. We knew that those three girls were very strong, unreachable,” Escobar told reporters after the end of the test. “I´m glad because despite being 36 I can still compete against many young women.”
