Alfaro’s Sword Is Exhibited in Montecristi Since Today
Posted On 25 Mar 2011
The sword of the legendary Eloy Alfaro will be on his hometown, Montecristi, since today. It will be exhibited as a “symbol of peace” and remembrance of the struggle for change.
The public may see General Alaro’s sword and walkingstick at the “Ciudad Alfaro” Civic Center. The state bought these pieces from Alfaro’s family for $ 62,000, said Tatiana Hidrovo, historian and president of “Ciudad Alfaro.”
The sword is 93 inches long and two inches wide, with the exception of its irregular-shaped handle. The sword–which has before 1910 Ecuadorian shield–and the walkingstick–given to Alfaro by the shoemaker society–are made of gold and silver metal and decorated with high and low reliefs.
