Amazon’s owner is rescued in Galapagos
The rescue of Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon and The Washington Post, was named “Operation: Lightning.” The crew of the Bell 430 had to fix the emergency in less than 45 minutes before sunset.
Bezos, passenger on Board of the yacht Letty, was evacuated after a severe renal colic emergency. The american billionaire was touring the Academy bay, between the Floreana and Santa Cruz Islands in Galapagos, with his parents and his wife.
The ship arrived at the Puerto Ayora soccer stadium, used as a heliport, where the tourist was already waiting. Until then, the pilot, Lt. Ship Juan Carlos Ibarra, didn’t know he has the billionaire Jeff Bezos on board.
Bezos arrived to Galapagos on December 28th to vacation with his family trough the cruise tour company Ecoventura. During the first hours of the new year, he started to feel an intense discomfort and was examined by a doctor on the yacht. Diagnosed with kidney stones, Bezos contacted his doctor in the U.S., who recommended immediate evacuation to his country.
Before 18:00, the Tycoon landed on Baltra airport. He immediately embarked on his private jet. After a few hours it landed in his country where the doctors ruled out an operation but gave him a kidney treatment.
