Annan Announces Cease-fire in Syria
The year-long battle between the Syrian regimen and the Free Syrian Army have occurred in the provinces of Deraa, Idlib and Damascus. According to opposition groups the confrontations have intensified.
Recently the Free Syrian Army received funding from the Gulf countries to buy weapons for the deserting soldiers of the rebel army. The supporting countries are Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Despite the violence, the UN-Arab League envoy, Kofi Annnan, announced that the Syrian regime has agreed with the six-point plan of Annan to suspend all hostilities.
Bashar Jaafari, the Syrian Ambassador stated before the UN that the government of his country is “committed” with the success of Annan’s mission. Jaafari assured that the cease-fire would be supervised by Syrian sovereignty. (AV)
