AP Board in Guayas decided to support the referendum and support Moreno and Vicuña
Ecuadornews:
The provincial leadership of the Alianza Pais (AP) party in Guayas decided to support the referendum. It also resolved to publicly support the management of President Lenin Moreno and the appointment of María Alejandra Vicuña as vice president in charge.
These decisions were taken after more than two hours of deliberation on the afternoon and night of October 30, 2017, between the cantonal and district leaders, who make up the board of the most populated province of the country.
Assistant Director of AP Ignacio Figueroa said that the board decided to support the President in the first instance because “he has demonstrated a commitment to the citizens and courage in the fight against corruption, and has maintained the inalienable principles of our political process of the citizen’s revolution.”
He also said that they support Vicuña because they fully trust in her qualities and the commitment she has shown since the beginning of the revolutionary government. This contrasts with the position of AP Legislator Marcela Aguiñaga. On October 27, she affirmed that Vicuña was not the vice president of Ecuador for her. (I)
