Appeal against appointment of the vice president is rejected
Ecuadornews:
A court in Quito today dismissed an appeal filed by several legislators of the Alianza Pais party against the appointment of a substitute to the constitutional vice president Jorge Glas while he is in preventive detention.
Judge Janeth Arias denied the so-called “protection action” of Glas’s rights because the plaintiffs can not prove that the vice president is on vacation – a condition he claims – and not disqualified as President Lenin Moreno considers.
The Presidency appointed Legislator Maria Alejandra Vicuña on October 4, just two days after Glas was imprisoned.
The appeal was presented last week by legislators Marcela Aguiñaga, Soledad Buendía and Sofía Espín, who support the administration of former President Rafael Correa. (I)
