Armando Valladares visited Galo Lara in prison
Ecuadornews:
Marcel Feraud and Armando Valladares, members of the Inter-American Institute for Democracy, made a “humanitarian visit” on Monday morning, May 7, 2018, to Lara, who has served a sentence since November 2014.
According to Valladares, in a democracy there should not be political prisoners. “The previous administration tried to take away the parliamentary immunity, and not being able to achieve it they involved him in a criminal and common act, this is a method that totalitarian regimes use,” he said.
“We came on a humanitarian visit to Gala Lara Yépez,” said Feraud.
The activists arrived to verify the conditions in which they are Lara. Visits are expected to last until next Wednesday.
Lara was sentenced in 2013 to 10 years in prison as an accomplice in the murder of three members of the same family, in the canton Quinsaloma, province of Los Ríos, on August 4, 2011.
The Panamanian Police arrested Lara in June 2014 and a few months later, in November, he was extradited to Ecuador to serve the sentence of condemnation. (I)
