Assembly receives proposal for early confiscation of assets due to corruption
Iván Granda, head of the Anti-Corruption Secretariat, delivered on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, the proposed Domain Extinction Law to César Litardo, president of the National Assembly. This activity is part of the work carried out at the Democratic Table of the 2030 National Agreement.
Granda said the proposal was built by several social actors, including political parties, as well as international organizations. “It is an important tool to fight corruption, because it allows for confiscation without sentence of property that was stolen. In the Ecuadorian legal system there is only one way to recover the stolen sentence that is executed through long criminal proceedings of up to six years. ”
Granda explained that through the proposed law presented, it will allow recovering an expedited procedure of 60 articles that allows recovering the stolen in matters of corruption, drug trafficking and organized crime.
The event was attended by the representatives of each Legislative bench, who received the bill to analyze it.
Litardo mentioned that any initiative that goes against corruption will be welcomed with responsibility. “I think it is important to say that the Assembly has given tools for this process. The Assembly approved, in the Organic Comprehensive Criminal Code (COIP), a mechanism of law that allows for the early confiscation of property when crimes.
