Atahualpa Stadium remodeling will begin in June
The Atahualpa Olympic Stadium will be modernized and will feature “cutting-edge technology” by 2016, that is the offering that the Sports Minister, Jose Cevallos made yesterday. The cost of the work will be of $55 million and it is expected to start in June and end in 20 months.
Cevallos said that the readjustment of the stage will be done by sectors so it will not be totally closed and it can be used in the upcoming Ecuadorian matches. Soccer teams like El Nacional, Deportivo Quito and Universidad Catolica play in the Atahualpa stadium.
Also, the property will be expanded to accommodate 49,319 people located in single-member seats. The current capacity is of 32,000.
In addition, the stadium will be roofed all around from the benches. There will be room for dope testing, inclusive access, parking, modern press rooms, dressing rooms. There will also be a new zone: the Museum of the Ecuadorian sport.
