Iberia and Union of pilots reach an agreement
Posted On 14 Feb 2014
Yesterday the Spanish airline Iberia reached an agreement with the Sepla pilots Union who, after years of conflict, accepted the wage reductions of 14% to gain competitiveness.
A structural change “was the only way to save Iberia by a slow decline,” said Willie Walsh, general director of the International Airlines Group (IAG).
Iberia, claims to have lost more than $1,160 million between 2008 and 2012, chose the restructure: With the Suppression of 3,100 jobs, fewer pilots for some long-haul flights and fewer days of rest, the additional cut of 4% “it will be revoked,” said the company. In addition, the “wages will remain frozen until 2015.”
