Banana Producers Expect Another Government Purchase

The purchase of the fruit from the Government is still below 1 million clusters, small producers despair while using cut fruit as plantations’ fertilizer
Impatient small and medium banana producers are expecting a second round of fruit purchase from the government in the same previous mode, through the collection center Mariscal Sucre, in Guayas province.
Farmers have sold few banana clusters to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (MAGAP for its Spanish acronym) within the emerging plan declared by the Government last month, which consists in the direct purchase of the fruit to producers having 1 to 30 hectares.
The benefit producers of the purchase of bananas from the MAGAP until now are more than 1000 in the areas devoted to the crop.
The fruit purchased by MAGAP so far is distributed free of charge to livestock associations, and few schools are going to collection centers to obtain free fruit for its students. (MZ)
