Baños-Peripe road is closed because of volcano

The Baños-Penipe route continues being closed because of the eruption of the Tungurahua volcano. Since last Friday, vehicles can not enter to the road between the villages located on the slopes of the volcano.

The Geophysical Institute said on Friday that there was an emission of ash and expected this to be the prelude to an explosive event. Authorities declared the yellow alert.

Residents of the area have not been evacuated so far and continue to work while waiting the warning ends so that there is no alarm among tourists that visit the area, which boosts the local economy.
