A total of 6,865 subscribers opened their electronic money virtual accounts at national level in the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE for its Spanish acronym). This was reported by the entity, which also confirmed that in mid-February the first real transactions will be made.
The BCE has indicated it expects to have 500,000 users in 2015. The electronic money will be a new payment method to shop and transfer money through cell phones. Some operations will cost between $ 0.02 to $ 0.15.
According to the BCE, most of the accounts were opened in the mountains region (2,797 people); in Coast they reached 2,073. In the Amazon and Insular regions 215 accounts were recorded.
