Marcela Rivadeneira, Vice Consul of Ecuador in New Jersey, confirmed that former referee Byron Moreno has already served his sentence and that the feds have made a diplomatic office order to arrange his return to Ecuador.
Moreno was arrested on September 20, 2010 at the John F. Kennedy Airport of New York, with 6.2 kilos of heroin attached to his body.
Before hearing the sentence of the court, Moreno apologized to his family and begged for mercy, “I am very sorry from the bottom of my heart.”
Ecuadorian authorities are managing Moreno’s passport and he is expected to arrive on Thursday or Friday to Guayaquil. (MZ)
