CAL gives way to the political trial against ex-chancellor María Fernanda Espinosa
Ecuadornews:

The former Foreign Minister of Ecuador, María Fernanda Espinosa, who chairs the UN General Assembly, must now face a political trial against her, once the Legislative Administrative Council (CAL) of the National Assembly gave way to the process driven by legislators Fernando Flores, Cristina Reyes and Marcelo Simbaña for considering mismanagement of the country’s foreign policy.
The member of the CAL, Cristina Reyes, during her speech at the session of the Legislative Plenary of today, March 26, confirmed that the impeachment process was opened against the ex-chancellor.
“Yesterday we achieved that, after 10 months, this process of impeachment takes place so that this bad official, who today walks around the world, will face the country about her negligence and indolence in the events that occurred in the northern border and on the crisis of human mobility, “Reyes said.
Fernando Flores, Cristina Reyes and Marcelo Simbaña presented the request for impeachment to Espinosa on May 31, 2018. The process was presented by, among other things, the mismanagement of the crisis on the northern border that began in January 2019 and which ended with several deaths, injuries, cases of kidnapping and murder.
She said that the dismissal does not fit into a former function, but believes that the censorship will have a “moral charge” in terms of claiming the memory of three journalists killed, four soldiers killed and a couple killed. “She had to do everything in her charge and she did not do it because she was campaigning with public resources,” Reyes said, stating that the Assembly’s investigations and conclusions could result in a judicial process.
She informed that the Commission of Control will have 5 days so that avocue knowledge of the process to, soon, to receive the evidence of position and of discharge.
The request was presented in the midst of Espinosa’s candidacy to preside over the UN General Assembly, which he finally managed to achieve. (I)
