Carlos Figueroa recovered his freedom after six months in prison
The doctor Carlos Figueroa, sentenced to six months in prison for insulting President Rafael Correa, was released from Social Rehabilitation Center No. 4 in Quito at 06:00 this Saturday.
The same sentence must meet former lawmaker Cléver Jiménez and his adviser Fernando Villavicencio, who are fugitives.
Figueroa confirmed that his conviction was announced political and international legal actions against the state. He also assured that have remained six months in prison it has strengthened him to continue fighting against injustice.
Julio Cesar Sarango, Figueroa defense lawyer, said that shall encourage stronger international demand because the government did not respect the precautionary measures of the IACHR, which weighed in his favor.
Subsequently, Figueroa moved with their families to the Medical College of Pichincha, where he acknowledged the support he received from the group, which never forgot him in difficult times.
“They helped me survive, to pay credit cards and financially support my little daughter, now I will concentrate on strengthening the social area of the college (medical) because it is required to improve the conditions of this guild.”
