Change in competition to choose new CNE members
Posted On 08 Aug 2014
Aspiring members of the National Electoral Council (CNE for its Spanish acronym) will have to face the stage of citizen challenge at the start of the competition and not at the end.
This change was imposed yesterday by the vote of five members of the Council of Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPC for its Spanish acronym).
Counselors Andrea Rivera and David Rosero disagreed with this provision. “This dilutes the possibility for citizens to publicly scrutinize aspirants, distracting their right among the countless participants of this contest”, said the councelors in a joint statement.
