Change of gas cookers by electric begins this August 1st
The change of gas stoves by electric will start this August 1st nationwide. The Government encourages the replacement of three million stoves, because it seeks to save $800 million per year spent on the gas subsidy.
In Ecuadorian households 92% of liquefied petroleum gas is consumed, and 78% of that demand is imported.
The incentive given by the Government of stoves change is that in 2018 users cook and heat water with electricity, for which 100 kilowatt hours per month will be free.
To access the funding program the user must register with the trading system of the electric company. Although people may choose to pay with cash, credit cards or store credit.
The project is supported by the construction of eight projects according to Esteban Albornoz, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy. He explained that there will be 2,700 additional megawatts to satisfy the demand for electric power the new induction cookers will have.
