Chavez Will Be a Presidential Candidate in 2012

Posted On 26 Jul 2011
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said he will run for president again in 2012, despite comments from opponents who say he must leave the office due to the cancer he is suffering from.Chavez, who returned this weekend to Venezuela from Havana, said his doctors did not detect any more cancer cells in his body. He said he is responding well to the “intense” chemotherapy treatment he was subjected to and is determined to continue governing until 2031.”I’ve never thought for a moment about retiring from the Presidency. If there are reasons, I would, especially if any of them are physical or mental, then I’d be the first to do it with responsibility,” he added.

Chavez had publicly informed that doctors had removed a tumor that had the size of a baseball from him. Although he never said in what part of his body the tumor was found, doctors surveyed said that the details provided by the president himself suggest that he suffered from colon cancer.
