Chevron was sued in the U.S.

Posted On 09 Jun 2014

On Thursday in a court in the capital of Vermont, Montpelier, Attorney General William Sorrell, sued two dozen U.S. companies, including Chevron Corp for polluting groundwater with a gasoline additive.

According to Sorrel, the refineries promoted, distributed and marketed gasoline additive methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) despite knowing the “unprecedented risks” that they caused to groundwater.

“These companies knew for years that MTBE was the only bad actor in groundwater and ignored the risks and sold it anyway,” Sorrell said in a statement.
