Ecuadornews:
The Director of Maritime Interests of the Navy Brumel Vásquez said Tuesday that the Chinese fishing fleet, made up of about 300 ships that were in the vicinity of Ecuador’s Exclusive Economic Zone is directing mostly to the south, that is to say, towards Peru.
“That enormous pressure felt by the Ecuadorian State is blurred,” he said. The Chinese government announced yesterday that there is no evidence that the seamen sentenced to prison in Ecuador had illegally fished in Ecuadorian territorial waters, although it promised to punish the vessel. “As far as I know, there is no evidence that this ship was involved in fishing in the waters of Ecuador,” a spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said, according to Efe.
