Chiriboga Said Infants’ Health Is Improving
Health Minister of Ecuador, David Chiriboga, visited the Hospital of Guayaquil and Nursing House Francisco de Ycaza Bustamante, and indicated that they are requesting an emergency extension to continue with the structural changes taking place in the current system. Chiriboga did not go through all the areas of the Hospital of Guayaquil, but met with the director, José Maracita and the provincial, Yuri Patiño.
After that, they moved to the Children’s Hospital (Francisco de Ycaza Bustamante), where they visited mainly the area of neonatology. In this room, they found that changes are being made on faucets and sinks, where there used to be bacteria that contaminated the room, according to an analysis of the National Institute of Hygiene.
Chiriboga spoke about the health of three children who are in that area and reported that infants have developed satisfactorily and have also gained weight.
Tomorrow, the Health Minister will go the Isidro Ayora Hospital in the city of Loja, where there have also been reported 19 infant deaths so far in 2011. Chiriboga indicó que salud de neonatos está mejorando.
