CNE prepares logistical plan for natural risks
Due to the situation of areas considered as “critical”, affected by the heavy rains and the effects of the eruption of the Tungurahua volcano, the National Electoral Council (CNE) evaluated in cooperation with the Secretariat of Risk various contingency plans.
Four precincts with flooding problems on the Coast and The Amazon have been identified by the CNE so the implementation of the respective precautionary measures can be carried out.
For these areas, electoral kits will be stored in plastic bags to be transferred from the respective provincial delegations.
The Council recalled that the Code of Democracy empowers the plenary to suspend elections in jurisdictions where natural risks like a volcanic eruption are present. This, in relation to the explosion of the Tungurahua volcano in recent days.
The national coordinator of the CNE, Juan Carlos Intriago, informed that last week it was completed the printing of ballots and are stored in the Cemexpo.
