Contentious electoral recognizes morenista directive in front of Aalianza Pais
Ecuadornews:
Ecuador’s Contentious Electoral Tribunal confirmed today the leadership of the pro-government movement Alianza Pais (AP), akin to the president, Lenin Moreno, after dismissing a resource that demanded the reins of that political group in favor of the Adepta wing of ex-President Rafael Belt.
The Court decided to reject an appeal filed by Assemblywoman Gabriela Rivadeneira, akin to Correa, to a decision by President Moreno who commissioned the group’s leadership to his fellow Ricardo Zambrano. The National Electoral Council had accepted as legitimate the AP directive appointed by Moreno and ignored the correísta wing, whose director was former Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño, after he led a movement to remove Lenin Moreno from the presidency of the party, for which he was elected in January 2017.
After hearing the ruling of the Electoral Contentious Court, Correa reacted and in his Twitter account said that, in his opinion, in Ecuador “the rule of law no longer exists”, so he said goodbye to the ruling group with a “Goodbye, AP ” “Today, in the 11 years of the Citizens’ Revolution, the gift of the traitors is the theft of Alianza PAÍS, with an unusual split decision of the Electoral Contentious Court,” wrote Correa, who governed the country between January 2007 and May 2017, when he handed over Moreno, until that time his friend and co-religionist.
After assuming power, Moreno distanced himself from Correa and has made efforts to distance himself from his legacy, in a struggle that has sometimes overflowed the scope of the divided pro-government movement. “They can rob us AP, but never our will and convictions. Despite pain, this only strengthens us. Until the victory always! “Correa wrote.
The former president, who after giving power to Moreno went to live in Belgium, returned to the country to personally lead the campaign for the “No” to a popular consultation promoted by the current Government, with the aim of strengthening democracy and fighting corruption, among other objectives. Correa and his people, who have qualified the popular consultation of Moreno as a “trickster”, have been announced lately as a Citizen Revolution movement. (I)
