Controversy over holidays of the Spanish Foreign Minister in Ecuador
Ecuadornews:
Foreign Minister Alfonso Dastis has been the object of criticism and requests for explanations from the opposition in Spain due to the use of public accommodation and vehicles during his vacation in Ecuador. According to eldiario.es, a news portal, Dastis and his family stayed during the holidays in the residence of the Spanish ambassador in Ecuador and used official vehicles, although the trip was private.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed Monday that the head of the Spanish diplomacy was invited by the Spanish ambassador to the South American country Carlos Abella y de Arístegui and that he used the official vehicle “for security reasons.” The sources cited by the local news agency Europa Press added that Dastis was not escorted and he “occasionally” used the cars available in the Embassy in Quito so that their use did not imply “an extraordinary expense.” (I)
