Correa authorizes “certain ministers” to speak to media
President Rafael Correa announced last Thursday that “certain ministers” may grant interviews to “certain media, clearly from opposition” to express the government’s position.
Correa stated that the regime will apply this strategy facing the misinformation coming from some private media. Thus, the ban that applies since 2012, was partially stood up.
Cesar Ricaurte, director of Fundamedios, called positive the decision, because citizens were denied to access to the right information, and journalists to obey the Constitution and the Law on Communication which disposes to publish verified, truthful and contrasted information.
Meanwhile, the coordinator of the Journalists Forum of Ecuador (FOPE), Paul Mena Erazo, questioned that the decision contemplates only certain ministers.
