Correa regulates requests for presidential pardon
Posted On 01 Oct 2014
President Rafael Correa issued yesterday by executive decree regulations for the “granting of pardon, commutation and reducing sentences”.
The regulation states that the request for presidential clemency must be applied at the Ministry of Justice. This should meet requirements like names, identification number, description of the sentence, detention time, a certified copy of the conviction and details of the application for a presidential pardon.
The beneficiary must also expose his repentance and apology to victims of the offense.
The Ministry of Justice must have to make a report that will be submitted to the President, who could grant clemency, if he is in accordance with the document, and will issue the Decree with his decision.
