Decree will regulate the prices of agricultural inputs
Ecuadornews:
This was one of the announcements made by the Minister of Agriculture, Rubén Flores, in the Rice Technical Table held yesterday in Guayaquil. It would be ready in 15 days.
The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Ruben Flores, prepares a decree to regulate the prices of agricultural inputs, such as urea, glyphosate, among others.
The proposal was announced in the new Technical Table of Rice, held on Monday, May 7 with the producers in the Zonal Government of Guayaquil.
Flores said the decree will be consolidated in 15 days after dialogues with the sectors.
Another of the Minister’s announcements was about the cancellation of the debt he had with the National Storage Unit (UNA EP) of $ 1.1 million and $ 7 million for the acquisition of inputs for farmers.
“Now the UNA EP has the necessary resources to buy the crop with the ceiling price at the level of the strip that is $ 35.50,” Flores said. He added that 42,000 tons of the grass and a quota of 80,000 tons are already negotiated for Colombia this year.
“Last week I met with the Minister of Agriculture of Colombia (Juan Zuluaga) and we defined that the opening of the border be maintained the first 15 days of each month. As long as this is done, Ecuador will also respect all the flow and sanctions that we have in the Andean court against Colombia for breaches of some products, “the official added.
After the meeting, several rice producers insisted on the derogation of the minimum price of the grass bag ($ 32.30). However, Flores defended the provisions and explained that having a flat price helps the farmer to estimate how much he will plant and will grow; while the fixed ceiling limits the profits of the speculators.
