While the Special Commission for the treatment of constitutional amendments met on Monday in the city of Esmeraldas, Alianza PAIS and CREO militants, along with their leader, Guillermo Lasso, demonstrated outside the building. Juan Carlos Cassinelli, chairman of the commission, said that the aim of the talks is to hear the voices of different sectors, whether opposition, those who are in favor or those who propose to add or remove any of the 16 amendments text.
Cassinelli said that if Lasso requested admission in the discussion group, would be allowed. But the leader of CREO refused to go. From the back of a van he told his supporters he backs the 81% of Ecuadorians who demand a referendum: “There in that room with air conditioning, meet those who ask permission to speak; here free people meet. There, with air conditioning, those who apologize after speaking meet; here with me, the people who are not afraid meet,” he said.
