Difficult access to water service in three counties

Muisne, Pedernales and Manta did not have access to water before the earthquake of April 16, mainly due to the quality and supply.
In the first county, the alternatives were deep wells or rainwater collection. For example, in the San Jose de Chamanga parish, water tankers charged USD 1 a day for filling a water reservoir.
That was the only option the villagers had since 12 years ago when the formal water system built by the Prefecture collapsed.
According to the president of the Vestry, Gabriel Mendoza, this project operated a month because the pipes had cracks and others forcibly broke due to the water pressure. Since then, water supplied by tankers is only used for washing clothes and bathing because it is not drinkable.
