The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of Ecuador asked the Government of Argentina to appoint a new ambassador in Quito after the controversy over offensive statements by the current diplomatic representative in the country, Luis Alfredo Juez.
This was confirmed to Efe today by sources from that Ministry, which stated that the request was made “by telephone last Friday” and that it has been transmitted both by the ambassador of Ecuador in Buenos Aires, Diego Fernando Yépez Lasso, as well as by the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry.
According to Argentine media, Ambassador Luis Alfredo Juez recently stated in Mendoza that he should change his clothing so as not to look “filthy” after “acquiring Ecuadorian habits.”
And I questioned later by his comments, he insisted that it is a description of Ecuadorian ethnic groups. (I)
