The new fee established by Correos del Ecuador (The Ecuadorian Post Office) will have an impact on the Internet purchases of clothing, footwear, technological devices, accessories, toys, and other products. From October 1st, USD 3.51will be charged for packages up to 2 000 grams, which were previously exempt from this charge.

Correos del Ecuador reported that it set this fee due to the saturation in the shipment of packages from abroad, by online purchases. In the first half, there was a 276% increase in the processing of these goods, about the same period of 2016. This represents 273 600 pieces purchased online, which arrive every month at Correos del Ecuador. The majority (69%) comes from China. (I)
