Ecuador Might be Excluded from the London Olympic Games 2012
A dispute between Ecuador‘s sports minister and the leader of the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee for the autonomy of the agency put into play the country’s participation in the Olympic Games in 2012.
The controversy arose after Francisco Cevallos, Sport Minister and former goalkeeper of El Nacional soccer team, provided the intervention of 40 of the 46 localsports federations and appointed temporary administrators of the same, based on the Sports Law, active since July 2010.
Cevallos argued that intervened institutions failed to meet the deadline stipulated in the law to be regularized and to call elections for the appointment of their directives.
It is expected that the minister Cevallos travel to Switzerland in the coming days to meet with the president of the IOC (International Olympic Committee), Jacques Rogge. An exact travel date has not been released yet. (ARL)
